My New Favorite Craft Gadget

Craft Cutter Die Cut Word Art
I've tried plenty of tools and gadgets for crafting and sewing, but the latest addition to my craft room is definitely one of my favorites. I've got a shiny new Silhouette Cameo craft cutter and I'm already getting loads of ideas on how to use it. I've been testing it out with the fonts I already had on my computer, and I'm making cuttable shapes from my own coloring page art and digital stamp drawings. This is way-cool fun!

The first project I designed and cut was a welded die cut of my granddaughter's name using a font on my computer and a sheet of heavy embossed card stock from my stash of Nana's Kids Cardstock Collection by Die Cuts with A View.

I've had this lovely heavy weight craft paper for a couple years; the last project I made with these cute designs was a set of party hats for Anya's 2nd birthday. If I'd had this cutter then I could have added each child's name to the front of their party hats.

I'll be using my Cameo cutter to create some Oma-designed fancy cupcake wrappers for her 3rd birthday bash. Maybe I'll even make some standup table decorations or a very special paper doll ... stay tuned for more projects from the Cameo craft cutter.

PS I think I'll be adding freebie die cut shapes to my web site this year!

Father's Day Tie Craft

Here's a crafty idea for the kids to make a time-honored Father's Day gift  - a neck tie! Print a neck tie shape on a piece of card stock, or print on paper and glue the shape to a piece of recycled cereal box cardboard, then trim along the outline of the tie shape.

Decorate the tie with any colorful crafty bits from your scrap box - fabric and paper scraps, rick rack, sequins, stickers, markers and just about anything else that will stick. The goal is to be wild and colorful ...

After the glue dries, trim off any ragged edges around the tie shape, then have the kids attach their tie to their shirt front. Depending on the type of shirt your child is wearing, you can fasten the tie to the shirt with a piece of tape, paper clip or bulldog clip, brass fastener through a button hole, or (for older kids only as this could pose a potential choking hazard) a length of 1/4" elastic, narrow ribbon, yarn or string.

Where to find a Tie Pattern: Cut out a neck tie template from this Dad's Tie  printable coloring page - you can use the coloring sheet to make a poster or jumbo greeting card, too.  If you prefer other tie styles, you can try these neck tie, bolo and bow tie templates.

New Life for Plastic Lids

I recycle any plastics I have on hand, either to our community recycling center (which takes only types 1 or 2 plastics) or I use cleaned plastic jars and containers for storing buttons, screws, hooks and what not.

I've finally got more than enough rooting pots and drip catchers for my plants, so what to do with extra plastic lids if they can't be recycled?

Make plastic lid crafts for Earth Day. Try these five frugal ideas, then dream up your own green crafts for left over plastic lids.
